What is Rural Leadership Collective?

The Rural Leadership Collective is the young adult internship program of Byers Assembly. The Rural Leadership Collective exists to train and develop leaders who are passionate about rural areas and small towns. The primary focus of the internship will be on building life-giving churches in rural areas and small towns, but many of the principles that we will be teaching translate into small town businesses, schools, government, and community organizations.

If you would like to commit 10 months of your life to learning, growing, and developing in your leadership, apply for the Rural Leadership Collective internship today!

Practicums

The Rural Leadership Collective is built around hands-on learning and real-life experience. Each practicum is designed to develop leaders who are grounded in faith, connected to community, and equipped for everyday life.

Rural Immersion
Experience the rhythms of small-town life firsthand—from Friday night football to hunting, fishing, agriculture, and livestock. Interns won’t just observe rural living—they’ll be part of it.

Leadership Mentorship
Each intern is paired with a trusted staff member or key leader within our church. Through weekly one-on-one meetings, interns receive guidance, encouragement, and practical leadership development.

Biblical Training
Interns will complete nine Bible college courses through our partners, North Texas School of Ministry and Pathway Training, building a strong theological foundation alongside their practical experience.

Hands-On Ministry
Learning happens best by doing. Interns will take on weekly ministry responsibilities through church services, community outreach, special events, and summer kids camps.

Life Skills Development
We believe leadership extends beyond the church. Interns will gain practical skills in areas like personal finance, gardening, cooking, livestock management, butchering, and more—tools that serve them for life.
